What would you do if life were a video game? Set in the year 2022, Sword Art Online (SAO) is a Mass Multiplayer Virtual Online Roleplaying Game (MMVORG), where you put on a helmet, and the surroundings around you evolve into a video game world. Taylor is a small town girl, quiet and shy, who doesn’t interact with her friends in the real life much. Her only means of escape – is Sword Art Online, where she plays as a boy character as a beta-tester. Why? Boys typically play video games more than girls, and Taylor decided that people wouldn’t play much attention to her if she were a guy. But then, things go too far on the public launch of the game. The game creator not only removes Taylor’s mask as a girl, but he also removes the “logout” option, the player’s only means of escape from the real world. Things are real. To Taylor, SAO is exactly like the real world, and she has to learn to face her fears as she makes new friends. But what she fails to realize in time, the most important thing in the game. If your HP dies in SAO, your character dies in the game, thus, ending your life in the real world. And Taylor has to figure out, just how real that is.

Akari Kiyomizu is a thirteen-year old girl who just constantly kept worrying about her friend she calls Kyo, a hardcore gamer. She knows nothing about games, NOTHING at all, in other words she's a noob. Wanting to go to Kyo's world of gaming she swooped the nerve gear on and was instantly teleported in virtual reality. But lady luck wasn't on her side, her first VRMMORPG which was just supposed to be a fun and challenging game became a life and death game.

Similar to Kirito, she's a solo player but also a profesional information broker. She is also a sadist who always enjoy men beg on her feet until she met Kirito and Asuna. Nami was also called The Thief of Dreams because she has a weapon called The Dream Eater that can transform into any weapon but it mostly takes the form of a katana and a skill called Dream Stealer. 8 months before the game Sword Art Online was relised to the 10 thousandth gamers one special young girl was given the game. This girl is called Alexandra and she is Kayaba Akihiko niece. She has a sister named Sophie. Sophie joined the game around the same time as the beta testers. Alexandra and Sophie use to live in Canada before their mom moved the 3 of them back to Japan there after their farther died when Alexandra was 7 years old. Alexandra is 15 years old when she receives the game as a belied birthday present. Alexandra is called Sky in the game and Sophie is called Jasmine. This story is how they survive this world.

Taking place in the year 2020, Clair finally gets the game of her dreams: Swords Online, along with NerveGear. After logging in on the official launch, she realizes that she may never see her home again
