It's the second half of the 22nd Century. We survived WW III and two nuclear blasts only to become pawns in the hands of the current ruling species-the vampires. Following the drop in human population after the war, driven by hunger, they not only revealed their existence, but claimed the top spot on the political ladder.
Being nothing more than a source of food and a bothersome inconvenience, humans are subdued and scared, dancing to the puppet strings the vampires hold. But the strings are stretched tight and are threatening to snap.
The Purists, a radical group of outlaws, are just beginning to stir the perhaps too comfortable government. In a new era where people are divided into classes based on how progressed their mutation is, a girl may hold the key to the right combination of DNA. It could stop people turning into grotesque shadows of Homo Sapiens and might just mean the end for the superior race of predators.
Wanting nothing more than to disappear and be left to her own devices, 17-year-old Ariadne finds this difficult to accomplish when suddenly all eyes are on her. Some very powerful players are interested in her rare genetic makeup and the abilities it might reveal. They are keen to have her on their side, voluntarily or not.
A bit of an outcast and unwilling to let anybody in after her sister's mysterious death, Ariadne goes through the mandatory medical treatment that involves being comatosed and having a group of people high-wired to her brain to see her through two years of nightmarish unreality. A guy with a sword, a genius, a girl with a secret, a vamp with a unique trait and an unliving thing - the beings Ariadne needs to share her brain with are not an easy bunch.
Things get complicated when a brand new menace surfaces in her own head, changing both the rules of the game and herself.
The story of Unclassified reveals a world of bad blood, bad politics, and bad decisions.
