The Test was designed to decide where the citizens of the Great City live: the luxurious Innercity, the agricultural Middlecity, or the polluted Outercity. Growing up in the Innercity, Cassandra has always pictured herself at the top. The top of her class, the top of her peers, and soon, the top of the Innercity. It also helps that her mother is the Test Administrator. But to secure the life she has always wanted, she must pass, no, dominate the Test. When the Test doesn't go as planned, Cassandra must choose between her friendships, battle invisible forces, and survive the life the Test had given her. Because the Test can't be wrong. Right? "The world ended. Well it was bound to wasn't it? At the time, it was not the fact that it was destroyed that came as a shock, it is was how we survived that caused the most disruption. Little more than five hundred human beings survived and every last one of them is somebody that I know." The end of the world was only the beginning of the downward spiral that became socially anxious Laura MacPhaid's existence as humanity fights to find their place in the galaxy. They told me that they would always win, that believing wasn't enough. They were right. Believing didn't get me anywhere, so that's why I burned their world and spoke to the humanity I thought we'd lost.
