"You're lying to me," I croaked out. Aleksander didn't even flinch. The bastard knew, from the moment I wasn't in bed, that I had some idea of what he had done. Of course he wouldn't break down a door for no reason. "I don't want you worrying about it." "I'm Ravka's queen." It was more of a desperate plea than a statement of fact. "You're my wife before you're anything else," he murmured, pressing his hand to the side of my neck to lull me into the darkness of his touch, of sleep. *** Alina was safe. Aleksander was benevolent. Everything had been going perfect. But one year later, the Shu are a greater threat than ever and Alina is thrust into a dangerous pregnancy. When Aleksander refuses to give Alina the freedom she needs, old problems resurface *** DARKLING x ALINA FANFIC SEQUEL TO "MEANT TO BE MY BALANCE"

At least, that was what she thought... DISCLAIMER: I DON'T OWN ANY OF THE CHARACTERS OR LIKE THE GRISHAVERSE AT ALL. When Alina and her loyal followers escaped the royal chapel in Os Alta, they left the Darkling dying buried under the ruins. Now, he sits on the throne of Ravka, ruling as undisputed Tsar, while Alina and her friends run for their lives from him and his Grisha. Alina and her group bring the battle to him, on the Fold, but their ranks are dangerously thin, nearly everyone killed in battle. Those who weren't have been taken to Os Alta to be executed, until the Darkling offers Alina a choice: Watch her friends and those she cares about be murdered, as well as her pilgrims and everything she worked for be destroyed. Or go against what she believes in to save her friends, by marrying the Darkling and being held captive for eternity to be used as his pawn. Alina sees her opportunity to use her position in the palace to overthrow overthrow the Darkling, but obstacles soon stop her plan. Will she be able to carry out her plan and kill the Darkling once and for all? I will primarily follow the books, with bits and pieces of the Netflix show adaption (mostly: Ivan and Fedyor are both still alive and happily married because I ship Fivan, the Darkling/Aleksander is occasionally referred to as General Kirigan/Black General, Baghra and Botkin didn't die in R&R, etc.). It follows canon mostly but there will be some divergence, bits I've forgotten or changed to work something in. It picks up during the battle on the Fold in ruin and rising. All characters and world belong to Leigh Bardugo. Spoilers for all the books (Shadow and Bone to Rule of Wolves). This is my first fanfic, so take it easy on me please :) also just psa I suck at english/grammar so I'm sorry if there are mistakes. enjoy :) (Cover photo art by minta.art on Instagram)

A darklina story~How would the story end if the battle at the climax of Seige & Storm between Alina and the Darkling happened at a different place and time-After the Darkling became the reigning king. What would have happened if the Sun Summoner surrendered? Alina Starkov struggles with her feelings towards Aleksander and protecting her country. She is forced into decisions that she did not want to make while at the Grand Palace. The Sun Summoner loses even more control over her life after her marriage to the Darkling. She must gain back control and find a way to save Aleksander's humanity; the lives of innumerous innocent people depend on it. This story is based on the Shadow and Bone trilogy combined with the Netflix show. Characters and universe created by Leigh Bardugo. ___________ Once I have calmed down, he lets go and leans back in his chair placed beside me. The Darkling just sits there and stares at me, observing me the way he always does. Moments pass, I become frustrated and snap at him. "Well? Are you going to yell at me? Hurt me? Tell me how you are the only one that I am equivalent to in my eternal life, so I should rely solely on you? He raises an eyebrow. "All of those would be sufficient options, but no." I scoff in response before asking, "then... what are you going to do with me?" He reaches out and traces the features of my jaw and face. He replies, "well that will depend on you." "Me?" I ask warily. He moves a strand of hair out of my face and continues to caress my cheek. "Yes," he exhales. "I don't want you to hate me, Alina. It is up to you to decide whether you want me to be your villain or your husband." #1 darklina 10/24 #1 shadowandbone 12/22 #1 fantasy-romance 2/24 #1 darkling 8/24

They've been together for - too long, he supposes. Through royalty and revolutions and centuries. Sometimes they go apart from each other, but not for long: never for long. There's a pull between the two, and Aleksander likes to follow it. Sometimes.
