An assassination attempt forces Neuvillette and Wriothesley to work together. But the case ends up getting a lot more complicated than they had thought it would. And so does their feelings towards each other.

It has been weeks since the prophecy had been fulfilled, and Fontaine had been having constant rain. Wriothesley hasn't been outside the Fortress of Meropide since the prophecy, and has gotten barely any communication. When he decides to go out one day, it's raining. And he is greeted by a teary eyed Iudex Neuvillette. They have tea together, and everything seems to goes back to normal. But Wriothesley undergoes bad injuries and is taken in by Neuvillette, discovering something that isn't so simple. While he heals by Neuvillette, they start to grow close. Wriothesley, a criminal who was arrested at the age of 18 and released 5 years later, began his reputation as the Lord of the Fortress of Meropide, but in fact, throughout these years, he continued to commit crimes secretly. Neuvillette, Chief Justice of Fontaine, had recognized Wriothesley and realized his crimes, sentencing him to 10 years in prison. Wriothesley, disgusted by the situation, searches for a plan to regain his position as the Lord of the Fortress of Meropide. "A criminal knows how to ration the criteria around him, thus making my life easy to deceive others." Wriothesley said, expressing his thoughts while completing his plans with Clorinde's help.
