"There are a million things I should have done, but I didn't. And I don't regret a single one of them."
Kai Hiwatari let out a cold, sharp smirk that didn't reach his eyes. His gaze was fixed on the city skyline, a concrete jungle that had tried to swallow him whole-and failed.
"They call it a crime," he continued, his voice dropping to a dangerous velvet. "But what the world did to me? That was the real crime. I'm just balancing the scales. After all, life isn't a bed of roses... and if it were, I'd be the one focused on the thorns."
He knew how he sounded. Cold. Calculated. Ruthless.
He wasn't the hero of this story, and he had stopped pretending to be one a long time ago. He was the shadow in the corner, the storm before the silence.
But then, the air shifted.
"I L-l-love you... B-brother..."
The whispered words hit him harder than any physical blow ever could. Kaya Hiwatari stood behind him, her voice fractured by sobs, her world crumbling at his feet.
In a world of betrayal and blood, she was the only light he had left-and the only person who could make a monster like him hesitate.
Kai tightened his grip on the balcony railing, his knuckles turning white. He had a choice to make: protect the innocent soul behind him, or burn the rest of the world to the ground to keep her safe.
He didn't plan on losing. He didn't plan on falling.
Because this time, Kai Hiwatari won't fail.
