Someone on Reddit dropped a challenge to write a story using Iron Maiden song titles - this bit of silliness is the result.

Alternate Universe - historical - RPF bandfic. Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, late 18th Century The diplomatic party Janick Gers is traveling with are waylaid by bandits, and he is the only survivor. Wandering in the forest, he is found by two hunters and persuaded to accompany them. Taken to their remote home deep in the wilderness, Janick grows increasingly mystified by the odd behavior and secretiveness of the men living there even as he grows close to one of them.

The son of a wealthy London business owner, sent from home in disgrace, joins the flood of gold-seekers flocking to California in 1849. There, he meets a young settler whose family fruit orchards are bordered by the American river in the heart of gold country.

Dave witnessed something while sharing a hotel room with Janick and now he can't seem to get it off his mind. But once he got past a difficult but necessary conversation, Dave discovered far more to his longtime friend than he'd imagined - and discovered a few things about himself as well. ***** This fic originated with iamtheoriginalpard, one of my favourite authors, although it was originally posted only on Rockfic. It left off on a bit of a cliffhanger when real life intervened, and when they returned to writing some time later, they felt they couldn't get back into the fic well enough to do it justice. As I loved the story and the pairing, I wrote a continuation and then got their approval to post their work and mine together as a single story. Hopefully I've done justice to their beginning with my ending. Written with the utmost respect and love for the men of Iron Maiden.
