Because that's what everyone do in every other kingdom. Then they're going to be in the same process over and over again. Phan wants to slay dragons, conquer kingdoms, fight witches, defeat the trolls, go in a dungeon, poop on toilets, set on an adventure that everyone misses! On an adventure that is different. And he did. What are you going to do when you find out you're just another adopted character in another makeshift story? What are you gonna do if you find out you're having the same destiny as every other else? Phan is just another prince in a fairy tale. Just another prince in a book. But then . . . he met the author.
