A homicide in Louisiana makes the BAU revisit a series of old murders in the area that follow the same MO. And soon they discover that the case is much bigger than they originally thought. During the investigation, Agent Hotchner comes in contact with a number of relatives of the old victims. And one of them sticks out; Sofia Wade. Sofia is tough, driven and she's not shy to ask for the things she needs which includes Agent Hotchner's attention. But her involvement in the case and their big age difference warn Agent Hotchner to keep his distance.

A series of unsolved murders in Rusk County, Texas, has Sheriff Jules Knox at her wit's end as the clues seem to point in different, confusing directions. So, despite her dislike of bureaucrats, she contacts the FBI for help. The case file ends up in SSA Hotchner's desk and after a brief look, he decides that the BAU would consult and keep an eye on it while they work on more urgent cases. Until there is a shift in the case, and the bodies start dropping in a faster rate. Sheriff Knox communicates with Agent Hotchner interrupting him from other cases. He doesn't like her attitude, but decides that it is time for the BAU to fly down to Rusk, Texas. Will the two be able to work alongside each other?
