The zombie apocalypse is coming. A scientist at the CDC has that terrifying realization when infected victims start displaying the symptoms predicted by his model. A virus responsible for hemorrhagic fevers is mutating into something that zombifies its victims instead of killing them. Realizing the only hope is to get ahead of it, he sets out to create a vaccine, but to create a vaccine he needs a sample of the virus. He tries to enlist the aid of a colleague to help him create the very virus he wants to eradicate, but she refuses on ethical grounds. Witnessing the horrific transformation of an infected patient forces her to reconsider, but before they can start working on a vaccine, their virus samples are stolen. As they criss-cross the country on a hunt for a cure, the paths of the two scientists cross those of a shadow organization on a secret mission, and a loose-knit network of zombie prepper groups whose loyalties are unclear. I am editing The Z Contingency for an updated edition, and I thought Wattpad would be a good platform to get improvements suggested by readers. The first edition of the book is already available for the Kindle, Nook, and Kobo at major online resellers, and is also at Smashwords. Delaney Escott lives in a world where popularity reigns supreme. If you want to be noticed, social status is everything. The government is run by the Superiors: a very exclusive group of individuals who are virtually flawless. They are smarter than us and stronger than us, and to join their ranks is the highest honor. The Superiors pay an annual visit to the top schools in the nation and evaluate the students, choosing one boy and one girl - the most Popular in the school - to go the Capitol and train for Superiority. Delaney thinks that she's the only one indifferent to (and perhaps even suspicious of) the Superiors, until Caleb Payne, the most popular boy in school, approaches her with a request. He has a task for her, one that he believes she is uniquely capable of completing. And as she helps him, Delaney discovers that the government is hiding many secrets - and that the truth of the Superiors is far from what people believe it to be. How would you react if you were branded as an "Error"; as inhumane, as a mistake. At age sixteen, every teen undergoes a Procedure that removes a section of their prefrontal cortex; the part of the brain that stimulates creativity and imagination, to ultimately eliminate crime and create a more perfect nation. Every once in a while, there is a problem with the Procedure; something goes wrong, and an Error is born. The government has zero tolerance for Errors and the minute one is found out, they are sent to a Lab to be tested on until death or killed instantly; after all, they're not humans anymore, just mistakes. Rosalie (Ross) Iverson has been against the Procedure since the day she mentally lost her brother to it. The exact opposite of Ross is Caleb Mackswell, the prodigy of the state and the next in line to lead the nation. No matter how their lives were before, neither Ross, nor Caleb could have predicted what the Procedure would throw at them.
