Ang salitang chicklit ay hinango sa dalawang magkahiwalay na salita, chick at lit. Ang chick ay isang American slang na tumutukoy sa isang dalaga o babae, young lady kung ito ay tawagin nila. At ang katagang Lit naman ay pinaiksing literature o panitikan. Kadalasan, kung hindi palagi, ang mga bida ng chick lit ay mga single. Opo, tama po kayo ng basa.
