It was your first day of residency at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Centre. You knew working in a trauma centre would be difficult, but you hadn't expected it to be this brutal. After finishing medical school, you planned to specialise in cardiology. You had been born with a heart defect, and owed your life to the doctors who had saved you all those years ago. The hospital had been your home growing up, and you'd spent your time shadowing doctors, always watching, always learning. You thought you knew what to expect. As the hours go by, patients are lost and professional boundaries start to blur.
