But when Shadyside goes to shit, when what some people would call the "apocalypse" happened, it's everybody for themselves or everybody for who they care about. You had to pick one or the other. Some say it was cursed, everything in the town just becoming much worse than it already was. Even when in those dangerous situations, Deena didn't care. Because what did she have to lose? She thought that she had nothing to lose. But when she meets Sam, her whole point on it changes with the help of Sam. Deena Johnson, a girl going through the rest of her high school years whilst struggling with mental illness and her alcoholic father with her friends, Kate Schmidt, a girl struggling to succeed in Shadyside, Simon Kalivoda, a boy working double shifts to help his family pay for the house, and her brother, Josh, a boy with his own struggles, such as his paranoia on a so called town curse. Then there's Sam Fraser, a girl going through family issues whilst struggling with her own mental health, which seems to get better when she meets Deena and her friends.
