After the killing game has ended, it's discovered that the sixteen students have been in comas for the past three years. They were put into a virtual world for three years to stimulate their brains, however the killing game was the result of an inside job within the coma ward, and was televised to the world by the footage being rerouted to a channel. The 'Danganronpa' games have been around for a while, and is run by an undisclosed group (obviously). The group runs this show illegality, however unlike the other 51 games, no one actually died... since they were in comas in a virtual world. Shuichi and the others who survived to the end, have all woken up, whilst many others who died. The only ones who are awake that died in game includes: Kaede, Rantaro, Ryoma, and Kirumi. Once they FINALLY start to adjust to living life again, they are thrust into the fifty fourth Danganronpa game.
