The country that America used to be is no more. The government is in shambles. The survivors have taken off to a nearby country to save themselves, and the rest of the adults have been killed in the recent genocide. The President is dead. Now, all that is left are the orphaned children in this havoc-wrecked country that was called the "land of the free." Macy Crow is one of those children.
Macy, a 17-year-old Virginian, has recently lost her parents due to the freak plague that is sweeping across the nation and killing billions of adults. She is now left with only her nine-year-old little sister Rosie as her family. Thrown into this new and terrifying way of life, she sees every person as a threat and every threat with one answer: kill or be killed. The children of the country have gone rogue with no one to control them, and riots and gangs have started popping up nation-wide. It's now become a game of 'every man for themselves' without a real enemy. What started out with her parents' deaths could very well end with her own. Macy has started to question whether she can keep her and her sister alive to see each new day, because each new day brings another surprise, good or bad. And today, it happens to be a boy pointing a gun at her head.
