Merlin is Prince Arthur's servant like he has been for the past almost three years. However, the air between them changes gradually, and an unexpected romance is born. This is an alternate storyline where Gwen and Arthur never get married and Arthur doesn't die as young as he did. Takes place around the time period of Season 3, at a time when Morgana is evil but is still putting on the facade that she is good, but Merlin and Gaius know the truth, and Gwen is very suspicious. Merlin felt the golden light fade from his eyes as he looked to Arthur, who was standing mere meters away from him. He didn't even have to look at the King to feel the expression on his face. No sooner had he looked to the other man; Merlin had frozen on the spot. It was as if the world had stopped at their feet and that he and Arthur were the only two people standing in it. OR Merlin reveals his magic to save Arthur's life in the midst of a battle. Wracked with fear for Arthur, he runs away, and Arthur finds himself unable to let Merlin go.

While Arthur and Merlin are out hunting Merlin gets turned into a toddler. And Arthur has to take care of him. Fun!

He only heard a faint bump when he should have heard something a lot louder. Merlin's fears from the previous day came true as he sat there in bed trying to process it. The ringing had gone, but he still couldn't hear anything. OR Merlin gets injured in a fight and is rendered temporarily deaf. He doesn't want Arthur to find out, but he does anyway. Angst and hurt/comfort ahead.

What if Merlin and Hunith did run away with Balinor, never to return to see the face of Uther Pendragon again? Merlin, age 10, is stumbling throughout the forest enjoying his own little, isolated world until a mysterious boy makes an appearance. His name? Arthur Pendragon. Merlin had never been handed the luxury of anything in life. Maybe his distant family would send gifts when they thought fit, but he had never landed himself in a place of riches nor simple comfortability. That style of living didn't make any change upon the subject of his classification. He had been sent off to Camelot as soon as he was of age. He can't pretend he doesn't have a pretty damn good idea as to what his class is, though. Not that he finds it favourable either; he just wants to be normal, after all. Maybe he'll be able to do that with Arthur's help. Or maybe things get a little more complicated when he's involved.
