There, they would choose which one will inherit the Iron Throne: the Princess Rhaenys, daughter of Prince Aemon and Lady Jocelyn Baratheon, or Prince Viserys, son of Prince Baelon and his sister-wife, Princess Alyssa. Through a vote the realm decided Viserys would be named Prince of Dragonstone. No woman would sit on the Iron Throne. Yet, the now King Viserys I Targaryen appointed his daughter, Rhaenyra Targaryen as his heir. The Seven Kingdoms had already rejected a woman, they would do it again. When the King remarried, his wife gave him a son, his council advised him to name him heir but he never did. The King didn't know then he would lead his realm to a war remembered as the Dance of Dragons.

Brought to King's Landing as a child, talk of his betrothal to Princess Rhaenyra had become loud whispers in court, and despite the fact that neither the King nor Prince Daemon had confirmed it, Aerion found himself in the midst of a political upheaval that had plagued his family's succession crisis for the previous century.
