Winter falls on Camelot. It falls to Merlin to keep Arthur company as the search for Morgana becomes increasingly desperate. 6000 words, Merlin/Arthur. Set in the break between series 2 & 3. I had to make a judgement call on whether we’re dealing with Yule or Christmas in this Merlin verse. I went with Yule (there was reasoning, but I won’t bore you with it). Chapter beginnings taken from Doubt Comes In, by Anais Mitchell, from my favourite album this year Hadestown (it’s a folk opera about Orpheus and Eurydice - so that’s the very definition of not for everyone but its weird and creepy and awesome)

Merthur AU (angel!Merlin and human!Arthur). Merlin is a young angel and doesn't understand many things. When he discovers a pond in heaven through which he can see Earth though, everything changes. For the first time, he sees a human - Arthur Pendragon. And from that moment he knows that he wants to protect him. When Arthur is in danger, Merlin accidentally ends up on Earth while trying to help him. Now he must stay in Camelot and befriend Arthur until other angels find him and bring him home. Their growing love is forbidden though. What can Merlin do now? Leave and never talk to Arthur again or stay and die? This was my first Merthur AU, written in August 2017. The story is set in season 1 during 1x04 The Poisoned Chalice. Merlin speaks Latin a bit (but I have like zero experience with that language so I used an online translator). The translation will be at the end of the chapter.

Merlin, from day one, has had to hide his magic. How could he be himself, if admitting to practising sorcery would get him killed? Arthur has always been fond of his manservant. "Arthur, I... I'm here. Don't worry you'll be alright. I promise." Merlin made Arthur drink the potion and he swallowed powerless. "Merlin.. I... feel sick... my mind is burning... all my body is burning..." He was suffering and Merlin felt sorry for him. "You can't think straight... Arthur please listen to me.. You'll get better. This high fever is only temporary. You' ll be fine.. I know it hurts now but" before he could finish the sentence, Arthur grabbed his face with all his remaining power. "Merlin there's something I want to say..."

I decided to expand on my Methur fanfic, and start their story from the very beginning. Merlin is a young warlock who somehow finds himself as the manservant to the prince of Camelot. At first, he cannot stand his princely employer, but when the two start to spend more time together they realise that there may be a fine line between disgust and desire. © 2014, Chiara Sullivan.
