The first is pretty well-known and doesn't need an explanation, but the other one is actually the creation by someone with the handle @meliapis (you'll probably find them on Tumblr) On that particular AU, the character is accompanied by a physical manifestation of their soulmate (i.e. a ball of light known as a lumen). A lumen is supposed to appear starting from their Chosen's 6th to 30th year. They also vary in colour and size, can control how much light they emit, while also (sometimes) able to transmit emotions/sensations of their human counterpart. Hope that wasn't confusing!
