Jaerynn wants to prove two things to the world: she is the rightful heir to the throne of Vertsynn, and that she isn't anything like her mother, the most outrageous witch that had ever lived.
An opportunity to do those two things at once arrived to her once the Great Oracles spoke, revealing the location of the legendary artifact that will grant immeasurable power and wealth.
Jaerynn is more than determined to acquire the artifact and claim the throne before her half-brother - who is also in the same quest - does. But it just seems to happen that she's not the only one after this divine object. Warriors, scholars, rulers, peasants and merchants, many of who have trained their entire lives are already in pursuit-including a prince from a rival kingdom, a man who despises her as deeply as she despises him.
With old political feuds and rifts between their kingdoms and a celestial prize hanging in the balance, they should be nothing more than enemies. Yet as they grow close to their goals and the Great Oracles begin to twist the truths of the past, Jaerynn and the prince discover that reaching their goals may require an alliance neither of them can afford, and a closeness they would rather fight than feel.
