The line started moving and I could feel myself growing increasingly anxious. There was only one more person in front of me and it was my best friend. I hoped no one could see how much my legs were shaking.
The next two stations opened up and we made our way over together.
"Name?" The doctor asked monotonously. She had probably done hundreds of these tests today and nothing had changed.
My heart was racing as I tried to breathe calmly, "Lia Deliz."
She crossed my name off the list and barely even looked at me. "Please hold out your left arm so I can draw some blood." I obeyed.
Everything happened in slow motion. She dabbed a wet cloth on my skin, inserted the tiny needle for four seconds, and placed it into a machine to read my blood.
Please don't do this. Please don't work.
My worst nightmare was happening right before me and I couldn't do anything to stop it. Everyone was watching, everyone would see what I really was.
The light flashed red.
"Miss Deliz?" The doctor questioned but I already knew what she was going to say, "It's positive."
