After a devastating disease wipes out most of humanity, 16-year-old Cameron MacRiada must survive alone when he misses his scheduled evacuation. ***** "0800 hours. It's been four days since I stopped going to school. Seven since the last teacher stopped showing up though, so I reckon there's not much point any more. My dad was raging - he thinks that teachers have a duty to their students or something. I did point out that their contracts probably didn't include an apocalypse clause, but here we are." Three years after the Infection first ravaged humanity, mankind is on the brink of extinction. Society is collapsing; resources are exhausted; the British Sanctuaries are overwhelmed by the constant influx of evacuees. And in the midst of the chaos, a secluded boy in the Scottish highlands decides to document his isolated lifestyle as he awaits evacuation. Who knew the apocalypse could be so fucking boring? ~a story told in sound~

Lance has heard tales about Yorak the Great and Terrible since he was a little boy. His parents and all of the village elders warn him that the fearsome warlock will lay a curse upon him if he dares so much as approach the lonely hilltop house from which Yorak looks down upon the villagers of Plaht. But eventually, a dry season strikes, and the conflict comes to a head and spills over. Yorak offers a deal to get the villagers off of his back once and for all: whoever can take the key from around his feline familiar's neck will marry him on behalf of the mortals, and they'll call it a truce. Yorak won't bother anybody ever again. But if the village cannot meet his requirements by year's end, he will curse them, and Plaht will never see rain again. The magick oath is sealed with a wicked mark upon the chieftain. The time to make amends between the warlock and the mortals is running out. Lance wonders if peace can ever be achieved at all... especially when he begins to acquaint himself with the so-called monster. And begins to question the council's version of village history. Before Lance knows it, he is tangled in a quickly unraveling web of lies that threatens to change everything about his little world. He can only trust in his heart- one that is ever drawn to the mysterious Yorak- and hope that he has not made a deal with the devil.
