*I stood looking at myself in the mirror, my real self. My curly blond hair, my pale peach skin, my gray blue-ish eyes. I heard a servant come in and ask if I was ready. It was my cotillion ball. When my father would choose my partener for life. I had made my dad wait until my 17th birthday to hold it instead of when I was 15. I got up letting my long white dress fall to my sides and the straps hang on my shoulder. I bowed my head and followed the maid to the ballroom. My dad stood smiling proudly in front of the entrance. Then I felt it. My soul disconecting from my body. It was is all my life had been knocked out of me. I fell to the ground hard, but I couldn't feel anything anymore. I felt empty and lifeless. I could hear my dad's cry of pain I heard his heart break as he saw his daughter lifeless on the floor. He yelled for help but no one could hear him over the music of the orchestrah playing downstairs. I tried reaching for him but I couldn't. I was being pulled away from him, away from my one connection to life. I heard him whisper my name,"Amelia, please don't leave me. I love you so much my daughter." His sobs got softer and softer until I couldn't hear it anymore. I was pulled across the world, a lonely soul. I saw another soul being pulled upwards out of its body, her eyes scared as much as mine. Then I felt it, a heart beat. But it wasn't mine, it wasn't mine. I felt my soul adjusting to its new body. I could move my fingers again, but it didn't feel right. An impostor.* I shook trying to get out of the dream, but I couldn't. I could feels the tears of longing running down my eyes. That was the first time I had shifted souls with someone. But it wasn't the last.
