Moe Szyslak had to be the most unfortunate person in Springfield. No, scratch that, the entire US. Maybe not the whole world, who knows what those Europeans are up to.
With a combination of poor luck ranging from his lacking love life and his equally lacking looks to his so-called friends who could watch him die and wouldn't bat an eye as long as the booze was intact, Moe really had his own personal slice of hell cut out for him.
Really, things couldn't be going worse for the poor lonely soul - just him, his memories and his trauma, all combined into a delicious cocktail of misery along with a bunch of other things that were constantly heavy on his mind.
The last thing he would expect was for a timid, awkward-looking graduate student to stumble her way into his bar one night to drink away her sheltered sorrows. Her type never usually made their way to bars, and much less to Moe's.
Perhaps even more strange, that the more this girl talked, the more he had seen his reflection in her. He was a 62-year-old man, and he really shouldn't be having all these complicated feelings, especially not about a girl who was going through the prime of her life right now.
Or rather... she would be, were she not cursed with being such a social recluse.
So when he offers her a part-time job as a barmaid, he even surprises himself with how sick his brain would permit him to be.
Sure, he just wants to see her in a deliciously short skirt he'd appointed as part of her uniform. And that's all there is to it. Because if there wasn't, he'd have to actually acknowledge his complicated feelings, and maybe do some deep diving into the depths of his soul that would force him to ask difficult questions about every single little preconceived notion he had created about himself.
So if he had a choice, he would much rather just box his desire to be around her as the simple perversions of a very lonely middle-aged man.
Too bad that's not a choice she was about to give him.
