Hazel Ross was born and raised in Hawaii; she knew nothing else but the clear, blue ocean waters. The world outside of Hawaii was all a big pile of confusion to her, especially Washington State. Mr and Mrs. Ross happened to get a job in La Push for marine biology. Though, Mr. Ross sadly developed a spinal injury from his current workings and couldn't accept the offer until his surgery would be complete. Mrs. Ross, she accepted and decided to take her daughter with her to live there. As much as they didn't want to leave their family back in Hawaii, they had no choice. Money was getting low, and this job offering would really boost them up into business. Now La Push is like a whole new world to Hazel. She honestly had no idea how to act, what to wear, etc. Being herself, the girl from Hawaii, was all she knew. Moving there was a hassle, but settling in wasn't so much. By the second day, she had already gained new friends: Jacob Black, Embry Call, and Quil Atera. She loved these boys. Soon school came around, which meant, so called Embry says, 'the hall monitors on steroids,' would soon be introduced into Hazels life. Like we all know, the boys didn't like the pack very much. Though until they phased. Later on in the story, Embry goes first, then Jacob, then Quil. Embrys phase became the hardest on Hazel since she didn't know about werewolves- same with early Jacob and Quil. Once Embry leaves, Hazel starts digging into on finding information about these boys. She was confused on why Embry just up and left. After a week of Embry phasing, Jacob comes along and does as well. By that point, Hazel starts getting mad. She storms over to Jacobs house one day, demanding why he and Embry have been avoiding her and Quil. What she didn't know was that Bella Swan was also going to be there.
