Harry's first encounter with the one Thomas Riddle is in their first year, after Riddle and his his friends stole a toad. And from that day on they were sworn enemies, and everyone knew it too. Harry Potter and Thomas Riddle fucking hated eachother. But curiosity killed the cat; and Harry and Tom quite literally murdered two of their fellow students. Harry and Tom begin to realise that they are just alike, and by that logic, to them no one else matters but eachother now.
