E cosí come tante altre persone al mondo, prima di trovare un effettivo lavoro, decide di passare un anno con il semplice scopo di "lasciare che la pigrizia possa impossessarsi del suo corpo" - non era difficile immaginare il fatto che l'idea certo non partisse da lui. Ma, come nei romanzi cliché che tanto ripudiava, ecco che due occhi azzurri ed un sorriso divertito lo portano a riporre - se si chiede a lui, involontariamente - la sua attenzione su tutt'altro. Ed era così ironico il fatto che anche quello fosse incredibilmente ordinario, ovvio e prevedibile. Ma se la banalità del mare riesce a far commuovere, perché quello non poteva farlo?
