He and his siblings were taught to despise the Vanilla Kingdom and its inhabitants, sparking an endless war between the light and the dark. Madeleine is a paladin of the Divines, the Vanilla Kingdom's knight commander and savior, and almost immediately he is intrigued by the coffee mage on the opposing side. He is convinced that good exists in Espresso's heart, along with the hopes that he'll join them. A violent circumstance leads to Espresso being captured and held within the castle walls of the Vanilla Kingdom with no magic and nobody to help him. But of course, this was all but a great opportunity for Madeleine to persuade the stubborn mage into leaving the Cookies of Darkness behind.
