Kol žmonės ramiai gyvena savo pasaulyje, nedidelėse bendruomenėse verda kitokių būtybių gyvenimas. Žvėrtakiai, arba šiuolaikiškai, teriantropai, kadaise buvo dievai, kuriuos žmonės garbino. Tačiau ši praeities dalis išnyko iš istorijos sūkurių, o žvėrtakiai prisitaikė prie žmonijos ir tapo jos dalimi niekam nekeldami įtarimų. Viename iš teriantropų miestų, Kvinse, gyvena paskutinė savo rūšies atstovė Nova. Mergina priklausė senais laikais gyvavusiai karališkai žvėrtakių šeimai, tačiau lemtingas įvykis pasuko visą šios rūšies likimą. Visgi, rodos, sukrečiantis praeities įvykis nenugrimzdo amžiams ir kartu su į Kvinsą atvykusia naująja karališkąja šeima atkeliavo ir naujos bėdos, kurios palies Novos gyvenimą.
