Prince Levi doesn't get attention from his parents much since they were always busy. Levi grew up alone, his parents throwing him to the maids most of the time. No one to play with, no one to company him. Everyone just gave him a bunch of toys and expected him to play by himself. Due to this, Kenny, Levi's uncle, suggests that Kuchel hires a kid butler for Levi, another reason because she was pregnant with Mikasa. Not alot volunteered to be Levi's butler due to the Ackerman family's terrifying exterior and reputation for being unfriendly. Until Eren Yeager, a kid was the same age as Levi had volunteered. He was an orphan who had no one else, his parents passing away at a young age, this was his only choice. And he was supposed to care for Levi and accompany him for as long as he wanted. There was no guarantee he would stay with Levi, it all depends if he wants to.
