Travis Phelps- the homophobic asshole that beat up the outsiders as a way to filter his own self hatred, stuck in an abusive household. He was miserable, gay and being suffocated by the grip of his father's religiousness. Sal Fisher- the new kid in town, the exact thing Travis hated. Gay and transgender, on the outside happy with his life. On the inside, dying from a heart disease and living with a verbally abusive alcoholic father. Both were miserable, though it was hardly obvious to outsiders. They were polar opposites yet the exact same. Brought together by the very same religiousness that was slowly killing them, the two are at first enemies. Though after growing together, they make a decision. They were going to run away. They were going to live how they wanted. Even if it killed them. cross-posted on ao3. this fic does not have a happy ending. don't like? don't read.

Some ideas are formed enough to gain their own book, their own special moment. Yet, some are kept in the back of an attic, waiting to be heard and shared, even if they haven't been fully established. We should share them, bring light onto what we may have been too scared to continue working on, too scared to show the world.

Travis Phelps is gay. It's one of the many things about himself that he hates, along with the chub he sees on his stomach that everyone else says isn't there and the dark roots of his hair that taint the blonde he dyes it. He calls the losers at his school "faggot" in hopes that one day he'll wake up and not be one himself. As though if he acts straight, it'll stick. After a while, the acting becomes easier, until he's almost convinced himself he really is straight. Until Sal Fisher comes to town, and suddenly, with his eye-catching blue hair and his odd face mask, he grasps Travis' heart tightly in his hand. Suddenly, it's not so easy to pretend anymore. spanish version on profile ! cross-posted on ao3. this fic does not have a happy ending. don't like? don't read.
