❝ You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.❞ Tegwen Gittins nearly always stuck to the advice of minding her own business, but the one time she didn't, it nearly cost her life. A freshly made prefect, Tegwen was only making her nightly rounds through the castle when she catches her fellow peers, Newt Scamander and Leta Lestrange out of bed long past curfew. Curious as to what they were up to, she intrudes on their midnight plans and sets the two into a panic. What happened next was only said to be an accident and yet to Tegwen, it was a moment that changed everything. Years later, Tegwen is established with her own career and happily living in New York City. Deep down, there is still a sense of bitterness and anger she holds over the incident in Hogwarts, but it's something only a few people know about and she rather keep it that way. She believes she has everything going for her with her life finally in proper order when suddenly, Newt Scamander blows into town. It's been quite some time since the two have seen each other face to face and it is not a happy reunion, especially on Tegwen's behalf. Old wounds are reopened, but this time, there is hope that they can be healed. [Book One] [FBAWTFT]

There were some things in life that even magic couldn't heal and for Zakari Ollivander, being deaf was not something that he wanted to be "healed" of anyways. Never considering himself disabled, Zakari considered himself just to be slightly different growing up. He still enjoyed partaking in activities that other children his age were involved in, even if he had to find his own way to do them. It was a challenge sometimes, but Zakari was always up for a challenge. As the grandson of a famous wandmaker, Zakari's biggest challenge yet would come to the young boy when he receives his acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Without knowing him, people were quick to pass their judgement, believing the boy would struggle and calling it a waste of time trying to teach magic to a boy who couldn't hear and hardly spoke. However, Zakari sets himself out to prove that just because he was hard of hearing, didn't mean he didn't have anything to say. It was everyone else around him that needed to learn how to listen.
