She's just started seventh grade, she likes hanging out with her new best friend Balloon (even if her dad's boyfriend doesn't like him all that much), and she likes to go to the arcade to see Fan, a high schooler who's always been like a second older brother to her. But after sneaking out to the local park after dark one night to see Balloon, the two of them plus Fan witness something that leads them to discover that nothing in their hometown may not be what it seems. And as their newly formed secret club starts to unravel the secrets of the town, Suitcase finds that many of her thoughts can't be eternally encased betwixt the pages of her journal.
