[2018 WATTYS WINNER] Louise Johnson was an African American teen living on the brink of the Space Race. Her hobbies included studying the twinkling night sky, ignoring her racist classmates, equally fantasizing about both killing and kissing Patricia Morris--and oh, using quantum teleportation to her own advantage by the means of a perplexing silver Ring. That was, until she found herself knee-deep in a heap of files revealing that the newly-formed NASA was hiding inconceivable research from Project Vanguard that should've destroyed the entire planet worse the than progressing Cold War. Now obviously, the forty-eight states of America are still intact, and so is our beloved Earth. But why? Fortunately for humanity, Louise Johnson and her diverse team of science-loving geeks turned the imminent apocalypse into just another facet of American history. And this is the entirely illegal story of how. [©2017-2018. All rights reserved.]

Lilly Martin is not model-material, but Adam Hiller is, and it turns out he likes to wear dresses when nobody's looking, and is in fact not a 'he' at all. When their school announces a fashion designing competition, Lilly decides to kill two (or three) birds with one stone and: 1) Win the fashion competition by making the best dress Edgley High has ever seen. 2) Help Adam (who prefers Eve, thank you very much) come out as the girl she is. 3) Annoy the bigots. Dorothy Gale is the first Gale to go to college. Before her, her lineage came from nowhere but a farm. But when she gets to the University of Oz, she realizes city life is very different from the middle of nowhere. For the first time, Dorothy witnesses discrimination in her own classroom. Will she be able help a football player who is always mistaken as a brute with no heart, a gay guy who is thought to be a coward, and a blonde who is thought to be brainless? Will Dorothy be able put these stereotypes to an end with just one writing assignment? Probably not, but she sure as hell can try.

New original musicals are always a chance for established thespians to add to their fanbase... and for newbies to make a name for themselves. And a handful of newbies might just leave a permanent mark on the world of theatre. Rated PG-13 only because I'm worried about the mild and infrequent swear that should definitely be fine for a thirteen year old, but may not be depending on your own preference. But otherwise kid-friendly.
