Book One of the Timber Series. During the reaping for the 15th Annual Hunger Games, fate dramatically alters the lives of District Seven's Hazel Marlowe and her younger brother when they are both chosen. The historic selection of siblings in the same games quickly captivates the Capitol, drawing a morbid fascination from its citizens. At the same time, Senator Coriolanus Snow, ambitious apprentice Gamemaker under the notorious Dr. Gaul, has his eyes set on the presidency. Determined to make this year's Games unforgettable, he sees a unique opportunity in Hazel's tragic story. As Hazel fights to protect her brother, she must also contend with Snow's mysterious behavior. It isn't long before she realizes that the Hunger Games isn't the only game being played. ⚠️ This is a Hunger Games fanfiction after all, so it will definitely have moments of violence, death and possibly self harm. DISCLAIMER: While some events may resemble real-world situations and/or people, any similarities are purely coincidental and not intentional. **This is a fan-created work inspired by Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games" series. All original characters and overarching story elements belong to their respective copyright holders. This fanfiction is a homage to the original works.

Claire Wrotworth has grown up lucky. At least, that's what her dad always told her - a lucky girl with a lucky life in lucky District Seven. Growing up in District Seven taught her to be tough, but nothing could prepare her for the brutal reality of the 74th Hunger Games. Determined to protect the person who matters most, Claire navigates deadly alliances and dangerous attention from Cato, the lethal tribute from District Two. As the Games unravel, Claire realizes that survival isn't just about strength - it's about sacrifice - and the Capitol's twisted rules are designed to break them all. This is a Cato x OC fanfic, the romance is a sub-plot that grows (we all love a good slow burn), my main focus is on the brutality and inhumanity of the Games and our desired nature to survive. This fanfic follows the Hunger Games trilogy made by Suzanne Collins. Although I took many creative liberties, the storyline and worldbuilding are almost entirely hers. I hope you enjoy!

Included on Wattpad's HistoricalFiction World Wars reading list. - * - * - * - Being in the French Resistance wasn't what Alice Klein envisioned her life looking like. She'd wanted a husband and a flat in Paris, and maybe a cat with a pink bow who would sleep on her piano. But bullets didn't discriminate between male or female, young or old. Alice knew that better than most. As a half-German, half-French Jew, it seemed no matter where she went, she was hated. To the German army or Vichy France, she was a traitor. To any uneducated Allied soldier, her last name screamed Nazi. When the Maquis heard of the Allies looking for connections to the French Resistance, they'd quickly offered up Alice as a multilingual translator and Underground liaison. Whisked away from the French Alps, she arrived to the States to train as a paratrooper, knowing that failure was not an option no matter how much she disliked it. Lucky for her, she didn't just find barracks and training grounds in America. She found men, and in them, family to replace the one she'd lost. - * - WARNINGS for realistic depictions of world war ii, strong language, era-typical sexism, era-typical anti-semitism, alcohol abuse, cigarette abuse, past sexual assault - * - * - * - Pairing: mostly gen, way down the line it's eventual Lewis Nixon/OC BOOK ONE in [ A Tale of Two Heritages ] Start Date: December 5, 2019 End Date: March 24, 2020 Final Word Count: 150,786 Cross-posted to FFN and Ao3 - * - * - * - #1 in World War Two, #1 in Band of Brothers, #1 in Feminist, #1 in 1940s, #1 in Lewis Nixon FIRST PLACE: Cherry Blossom Awards 2020, Writer's Glory Awards 2020 THIRD PLACE: Historical Fiction in Spice Off Award, Fanfiction in Majestic Inc. Professor Lukas Bondevik, tormented by a patronizing ghost, meets Mary, an American abroad student. "I'd cut my soul into a million different pieces Just to form a constellation to light your way home I'd write love poems To the parts of yourself You can't stand I'd stand in the shadows of your heart And tell you I'm not afraid of your dark." -Andrea Gibson Rated PG-13 for violence.

"I was a prey all my life, but I became a predator for the same reason too." For my whole life, even before I had reached my adolescence, I knew I dreamed of becoming a detective - just like father once was - my admiration and respect for the title never running short since I was a mere child. What I did not know, however, was that my ambition of becoming one would arrive sooner than expected, being forced into engaging with real crimes and relying on my own capabilities and the abilities of others to solve these. While death came knocking at my door, so did the start of a new relationship, with whom Yokohama knew as being their "greatest detective". "Bitterness is unbecoming of a woman, but I cherish mine like the memory of first love. I see nothing in Leon Wagner, but an automaton. He is a machine of the Third Reich. I am surprised he even bleeds." In the summer of 1945, the world rejoices at the surrender of first Germany then Japan, but healing is a long time coming. Though they are not visible, Ruth Tucker's wounds run deep. Having worked as a nurse for the American Red Cross since the invasion of Normandy, Ruth's hatred for her country's former enemy runs deep. While stationed in Zell am See, Austria, she is assigned to nurse in a German POW camp. She meets a young Wehrmacht soldier, Leon Wagner, who speaks English and strives to spark a friendship with her. But Ruth's bitterness is almost too strong. All she sees in Leon is a heartless machine. Slowly, through a shared love of books and their families, she begins to recognize his humanity and starts to feel her own stir in her heart, something she thought long deadened by the months of violence.

"Well lass, what say you?" The dark, mysterious man inquired. "Join this scum of a crew or get tied to a weight and sink to Davy Jones' locker?" You looked up at the man staring at you from above, his cold and calculating eyes sent shivers down your spine. But you weren't about to let him know that. So, you gathered up all your courage, pushed your fear down and took a deep breath. Then you spat in his face. And with a confident grin you spoke up. "Do your worst, captain."
