I close my eyes to think. The whistle I held on to all these years was nestled in my palm. Clasped tight under my fingers. I take in deep breaths of the ocean wind, hearing the rough sea crash down Acrewood's shores in small cascades. It's cold up here. How can it not, though? I'm on a cliff for god's sake. But why am I here, I ask myself. For some reason, I gravitated to this darker side of the town. I open my eyes and look around. A heavy feeling burdens my heart. I can't explain it entirely. Ah, right. I remember why I came up here. My gaze continues to survey the sky. There's not a star in sight. Only there was the moon proudly showing itself with its gentle light. I clutch my chest, reminiscing the voice of a friendly wolf I met long ago. Right at this very spot I stand. "So that's why ya like it up here so much." I recall his strong, comforting voice in my head. The way he looked at me wasn't like how the others would. He'd give me a smile warm enough to make my heart shudder. We came up here together one time- to make a wish on a shooting star we saw. He never told me what he wished for. But I remember him telling me: "You'll find out soon enough." I wonder what he wished for. Did it ever come true? I do hope it did. I haven't seen him in a long while... I exhale hard. Both my hands hold the whistle in between and I lower my head to concentrate on my thoughts. "Please, help me find them... help me find him." I bring the whistle close to my mouth, and with the deepest breath I could muster, I blow onto it with all my might. Its small yet powerful noise rings across the quiet scene, maybe a bit more than I hoped. It's a relief knowing no one lives in that lighthouse. I could've irritated them a lot. The heavens remain dark. A foolish sliver of me hoped that perhaps more stars would appear at the sound of the whistle. Or perhaps one would fall down, just like that night. I can only hope I was heard.
