He's not sure how but Rengoku Kyojuro fell hard for the painfully oblivious and "emotionless" water pillar, Tomioka Giyu. Giyuu was sick not that any of the other pillars knew (or cared, so he thought). He was hit by a blood demon art in the final selection when he saw his best friend die right before his eyes, right when something inside him snapped and Giyuu lost the light in his eyes.
