Davey Jacobs was the new kid. And boy, did he hate being the new kid. His whole life, Davey had gone to private school but now, since his father hurt his leg at work, he had to go to a public school. A public school, where he would have no friends. That is, until he meets Jack Kelly and his group of friends, dubbed the 'Newsies' due to their work selling the school newspaper and working on the school news team. Suddenly, Davey isn't so lonely anymore.

Davey's nerves cause him to sneak out the night after the strike.

It's 1899 and Jack Kelly who's a 17 year old painter and singer for Medda Larkin in her theater in Manhattan New York, he ran into 16 year old new stagehand and author Davey Jacobs who was captivated by the older boy's voice and charisma as well as his artwork. When the theater was slammed one particular night it caused Davey to stay and work late he ended up running into Jack again who was staying late painting a backdrop while singing to pass the time which drew Davey to listen. A few months passed as Jack started growing feelings for Davey. What was a brief simple conversation, to becoming really close friends, quickly turns into something they both didn't imagine.

Jack has a plan, Davey has a time limit, and Les just wants a slingshot.
