Originally from Cork, Ireland, she fled to Birmingham from what she explains "domestic problems" with her ex-husband. But that only seems to be half of the story. When she unexpectedly meets Michael Gray one evening, she finds herself unexpectedly involved with her new boss's family, the Shelby family. Tommy recognizes her though, from a year ago. He knows she might bring trouble. Now his newly elected secretary as he works in Parliament, Mamie uses all the energy she has to keep her past covered. That's if Polly doesn't get to the end of it first.

Centre stage when mentioning the Shelby Company, but hidden within the hearts of those surrounding; India couldn't escape the life she was destined for. India had grown up next door to the Shelby brothers since she could remember. She'd stood next to every brother when they were bleeding and knocked out any man attacking from the blind spot. She was one of them, a sister-like figure to the family - someone who remained the apple of every eye she passed. Caught up in a world where no woman should belong, the lifeline of the family breathed heavily as she threw herself against the brick wall - the only wall left separating her from the trouble that caused any sane man to run.
