The year is 2085 and all has changed. Under the Paramount's rule, life is better than ever before. Britain is sunny, technology is booming and everybody is equal. When robots and Paramount-owned corporations take care of the work, Lessers are free to live as they please. However, when Dean Dashwood thinks he makes a harrowing discovery about the true nature of the Paramount's regime, he's sent to the country's secret prison to be cared for by psychologists. There, he's told that his discovery was merely a delusion. Not coping with the ill-treatment and separation from his sister, he and his new cellmates plot to escape. Conflicts, plans and relationships bubble and collapse, but Dean thinks all is not what it seems. The more he discovers about himself, the Paramount, and their unnamed rival, the less seems to make sense. After all, ignorance is bliss-but just how ignorant have the Lessers been? Dean is subject 1313. He will get to know better than anybody else.
