(NOT A SHIPPING/SELF-INSERT FANFICTION. THIS STORY CONTAINS THEMES OF SUICIDE, DEATH, VIOLENCE, AND RELIGIOUS TRAUMA. THE MANDELA CATALOGUE AND IT'S CHARACTERS BELONG TO ALEX KISTER. STORY NOT AFFILIATED WITH ALEX OR THE REST OF THE CAST OF TMC. READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED. COVER IS TEMPORARY. STORY IS STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The world is a horrific place. And no place is more revealing of this fact than Mandela, a small county where the average person regularly crosses paths with horrors beyond human comprehension. Every little detail could be the difference between life and death, and every mistake could be the reason you end up putting a gun to your head. In an instant, friends and family could just vanish, losing their lives at their own hands. When everything you've ever had, everyone you could trust in this apocalypse, gets taken away from you, what motivates you to fight back? What is it that keeps you alive long enough to carry the names and legacies of the ones you lost in this battle of psychological warfare to your grave? When 18-year-old Cesar Torres finds the dead body of his best friend, he is faced with these exact questions. Will he find the courage to fight to overcome his fears? Or will he be forced to fall to the same fate as the only person he had left to trust?

Mark answered the call, listening to his friend. But something was wrong. Cesar's voice was usually passionate, filled with life. Now, he sounded... Monotone. Dead. He couldn't go over to his best friend's house in good conscience, not when he sounded so off. "How about you come over to my house instead, after you drop your mom off at the ER? You sound like you need it." ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Or, instead of going over to Cesar Torres' house to turn on the cameras, Mark Heathcliff invites him over to make sure he's alright. This changes everything.
