Set in Tang Dynasty, on a small farm in China, Peizhi Jiang, lives a quiet life with her family far from the outside world. Her mixed race background prevents her from stepping foot off the farm, having to occupy herself with mundane tasks. Despite making peace with this promise, fulfilled with her family's love, she longs to see the world and meet new faces that aren't the same ones she wakes up to. It isn't until a childhood friend of Peizhi's mother, Lady Xiaomeng, pays a visit to seek a good wife for her mysterious son, Zian Xiaomeng, to pay back a debt. A bittersweet moment that also presents an opportunity not to only support her family, but better her life and future generations. So she accepts the marriage. Unprepared for a world she did not expect nor sign up for, Peizhi faces many struggles and challenges within her marriage and the environment around her. Including her husband, who is the kindest man on the outside but harbors a vengeful spirit that consumes him whole on the inside. Something isn't right about him. He's always gone. He always meets with suspicious people and discusses acts of war. There's always red spots on his clothes when he returns. There's always a rumor surrounding his name. He'd even once offered Peizhi a chance annul their marriage and never look back. And hidden under their bed, is a red tassel attached to a gold bar inscribed with characters and a red dragon that always brings out a mixed reaction once revealed.
