Lacey grew up in Hampton, Nebraska, where she met her husband, Tim. Tim was a farmer and after a terrible accident left Lacey a pregnant widow, she decides to move to Chicago to be what she's always wanted to be, a paramedic. Unwanted circumstances lead her to fire house 51 where she meets her new family. They also lead her to Lt. Kelly Severide.
