An aged Lan Zhan and a promise

Speaking has always been difficult for Lan Zhan but he wants no needs to let his beloved Wei Ying know the depths of his love for him. How to do this?

Lan Zhan is taking his Wei Ying on a night hunt for his birthday per his request. But the night hunt has taken a sinister turn. Wei Ying has become the target of an unknown cultivator who wants to take his place. He wants to permanently remove Wei Ying from his title as Grandmaster and from Lan Zhan's side. Will he succeed?

This picks up where Backlash Part 1 left off, the banquet in Nightless city at the end of the war. Wei Wuxian and Wen Qing were sent back in time. With their knowledge and their loved ones they have managed to alter the events of the war. The Sunshot campaign is over. Now they must make sure they can remain safe in the aftermath. This story will have a happy ending for Wangxian. Mature content including: Trauma, abuse, attempted suicide, swearing, and sexual content. Based off of the novel Mo Dao Zu Shi, written by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu Some elements taken from the Donghua of the same name and the live action (The Untamed). I do not own the characters or main plot. This is a fanfiction in which two characters travel back in time and try to change the events that originally happened in the story.

What if A-Yuan and the Wen remnants did not stay hidden during the second siege of the Burial Mounds and caused Lan Qiren to have a change of heart and actually look at Wei Wuxian without all his preconceptions and judgment? What should have been just a one shot turned out into more just like that. Since I have found the story incomplete, I am continuing it with several more chapters. I am also not very familiar with chinese culture, customs nor naming conventions so this work may in some places not be 100% accurate. An AU where Wei Wuxian chose to act behind the scene of the Sunshot Campaign without anyone knowing that he's very much alive and unknowingly widowing and pushing some ice-cold statue into unnecessary mourning.
