Reece Bremer goes through life with a scowl and cold personality. Jessica Andrews goes through life with a glowing smile and positive outlook. Reece looks at life with dull, judgmental eyes that make him hate the world and the people living in it. Jessica, well... She looks at life through a camera. Literally. They're polar opposites, and that's what sparks Reece's immediate hate for Jessica the moment they meet. All he sees is a girl with the best life, put in the category of those who get everything handed to them on a silver platter. But who says Jessica's life is like that? Just like a photograph, there's more to the story than what you see. Stumbling across one of Jessica's hidden portfolio might reveal that her happiness isn't all that true. Behind that smile and each picture she takes, holds a thousand words of a very big secret - one that Reece is determined to find out. And who knows? It just might change everything between them. cover by dysanic || 2015 watty's winner for talk of the town ||

NOTICE: Before the Morning is currently undergoing revisions! A sensitivity reader (someone who goes through your manuscript and assesses representations in your work) identified a number of issues surrounding the Filipino representation in BTM. He is quiet, silent, hiding in shadows, away from everyone else, on his own. He has learned to keep to himself, build his suits of armors up, and shut everyone out. Nobody really knows him. He doesn't care. What hurts is that when his popular brother Owen Carlson gets everything he wants, leaving Oliver nothing. So when Gwen Bradbury unintentionally unexpectedly crashes into Oliver Carlson's life, she tries to convince him that life is beautiful with her broad smile and crazy endeavors. Oliver does quite the opposite by shutting her out on the outside but maybe secretly slowly letting her own a piece of his heart. #18 in TeenFic [prev titled "The Way We Almost Were" ••• ❝Don't,❞ he pleaded softly, offering her a tiny smile, ❝please don't make me a promise you will never be able to keep.❞ He released a quiet but deep breath, leaning forward even more, tilting his body towards her, until their noses were merely inches apart. ❝You are so, so beautiful, Bree,❞ he told her in a hushed voice, as if afraid someone was going to hear. He lifted his hand, trailed a single knuckle down the side of her temple, her cheek, her jaw, ❝you have so much good inside you, it makes me want to grab onto you with all that I have, because I need good, Bree, I need to know good. To see good. To believe in good,❞ he breathed shakily, ❝but all the goodness in you cannot defeat the monsters that walk in broad daylight. Monsters like Chase, like Alec, like...❞ He squeezed his eyes shut tight, closing the distance and resting his forehead against hers, the tips of their noses pressed against one another. ❝They'll get away. Monsters always do.❞ Bree swallowed past the lump in her throat, fought against the need to tilt her face and brush her lips against his, and instead, turned her head to kiss the corner of his mouth, where his upper and bottom lip met. ❝They don't always get away,❞ she whispered into his skin, sealing the vow with another soft kiss, ❝but until you learn to believe that, I'll fight them for you.❞ ••• In which Nick Fraser, the boy who'd grown up seeing monsters, believes he will spend the rest of his life running away from them... but then meets Bree Salvare, the girl with laughing brown eyes who makes him want to pause, take a deep breath, and stay instead. ••• ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ©LITERALIGHT

He was the boy that no one noticed. He was quiet, bland to the naked eye, a total wallflower who sat on the sidelines and lacked in eye contact with those around him though he had the type of eyes that made you feel like you could drown. He tried his best to blend into the background, but what he didn't know was that he was the only one that caught my eye. He was the most intriguing person I had ever laid eyes on even though he couldn't see me. He couldn't see anything.
