Another pawn is taken, and the board is set for the queen's arrival. But who could have foreseen that the final, ultimate sacrifice would become both the kingdom's greatest blessing-and its darkest nightmare? Veltharia Vexthorn, daughter of Duke Alaric Vexthorn of Crimsonvale, was offered by her own father to complete the ancient ritual as the thirteenth and final sacrifice, meant to resurrect the feared and forgotten deity: The Great Witch, known to her followers as She-Who-Threads the Spine of the World. But the ritual fails. And in that failure, something worse is born. Veltharia's body, sculpted as the perfect vessel, binds instead to Svetlana Saar-a woman from another world, dead and defiant, whose soul burned not for peace, but for vengeance. A glitch in the prophecy. A rebellion incarnate. A soul the gods did not account for. Now, caught in a decaying empire of undead kings, soul-thirsting angels, and demon-spy wars, Svetlana must either play her part-or end the cycle completely. She is no longer just a vessel. She is the error that breaks the script. And if she falls... she will tear the world down with her. Core Theme: "What if the only way to survive in a world that contradicts itself... is to become the very contradiction?"

This book is a sequel to Mortance: A Miscarriage of Hope. If you have not read that book, you will not enjoy this one as much. One princess is dead, another broken, the world is at war, and the Silver Girl has awoken. The end of the Thousand-Year War that has shaken Ert for twelve-hundred and twenty years has begun. Knights and Princesses and Kings and commonfolk alike are all in danger now, for war does not discriminate in its distruction. As the realm burns, treachery and deception runs rampant in the south. A warrior runs from her home in the east with hopes of repentance. On the seas in the west, two captains and a prince mourn in the shadow of death. Meanwhile, the Silver Girl recovers from tragedy, and the unexpected snows of summer begin to fall in Viri. Dark times lie ahead. Cover designed by the most excellent @apprehensiveanne (again)

Twelve-hundred years ago, the first king of Sacreon led a rebellion against an empire of witches. The war for who would rule next continues to this day. A false guise of peace came over Ert after two genocides, but there is no one so foolish as to claim the fighting is done. A prophecy claims that war will return to Ert when the moons are full once again on Ascenday. That day is growing closer now, and there is not a fool in the warring nations who does not dread its coming. In the midst of this all, the heirs to Sacreon struggle to find their place in this world of kings and knights and gods and elves and witches. A princess falls for someone she cannot hope to have, prince travels south to broker an alliance, a warrior seeks vengeance for the death of her sister. and the heir to a long forgotten kingdom quests for glory. Behind all of this, one man journeys north to an island of long forgotten magic with plans of justice, and The Wolf Witch goes west, searching for the one who can stop this war and unite Ert once again: The Silver Girl. Note: The Wolf Witch is meant to be a prequel to this book, and Sora will make an appearance, but she will not be a main character. By the way I take huge inspiration and influence from A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones so if you like that you'll probably like this (and my other writings I hope). Cover created by the most excellent @apprehensiveanne. It's very cool.
