In which I fall in love with my brother's best friend. ***** "Don't pretend like you don't feel anything." His voice is low, sending shivers down my spine. "What do you mean?" "You know damn well what I mean." "I don't know what you're talking about." I pretend to ignore him, flipping some pages in my book. "Come on. I have all these assignments waiting. Aren't you supposed to teach me tonight?" "It depends on what you want me to teach." He smirks, his voice sounding even more dangerous. ***** I thought that my brother was the most popular guy in school, but as soon as I step into my university life, I realize how wrong I was. Meet Vaughn Cooper, his best friend. The guy is the epitome of every girl's dream. Godlike handsome. The quarterback. He's got the looks, and he's got the brain. Come on, he's got the scholarship to one of the most prestigious universities in the country, while I have just barely passed the entrance examination after long years of struggle during high school. How could a guy who worked that hard and deserves nothing more but adoration be labeled as a bad boy? Yeah, the answer is simple. The moment we lock eyes, I realize something as I stare into those piercing, amber eyes. He's not every girl's dream. He's every girl's nightmare. In my case, MY nightmare. Calm down, heart. Our story hasn't even started. ***** THE SPENCERS SERIES BOOK #1 © 2020 Anya Jayvyn. All Rights Reserved. ONLY SAMPLE CHAPTERS "What's your name?" He asked her in a straight cold tone. Akshita and all the employees stared at him as if he was a GHOST, but he kept looking at her with an emotionless face. "Ask her for her name", he ordered the girl, his voice indicating danger. "Wh...What is...is your name Miss?" the girl asked Akshita, stuttering out of fear. "Ak...Akshita" she replied, looking anywhere but at him, blinking her eyes to stop her tears. Fortunately, she was successful. What kind of woman would like it when her husband asks for her name, 4 months after their marriage! That too in front of all those people who know about their relationship? "Full Name" He commands. "Akshita Raghuvanshi", she replies again. The girl's eyes widened in realization. "I said FULL. NAME." He ordered furiously, stressing on the last two words. "Akshita Ekansh Raghuvanshi" she replied again, this time looking down. The name itself gives shivers. "Mrs. Akshita Ekansh Raghuvanshi" He states every word clearly, looking at Akshita. She snaps her head towards him in an instant, shock and confusion evident in her expressions. Her full name, from his mouth, created a domination aura around the place. It gave her butterflies, his name with hers, as one. ----------- It's a Fictional book I don't have any intentions to hurt anyone's feelings so please don't take it on heart. ❝ She knew he can never be hers and yet she fell in love with him ❞ Fairytales exist only in books and movies. That's what Natasha Rehman told herself every time she looks at her best friend. She also knew it was foolishness for hoping that he'd look at her the way she wants him to look. But Natasha isn't that delusional. She knew there was no happily ever after for her and Farhan Sheikh, or so she thought. Farhan has been in love once and that failed terribly. And what hurt him more was, that it was his best friend who broke his heart. After reading all the clichés about next-door neighbours and best friends falling in love and getting married, he realized it happens probably only in the books and movies. Real-life sucks, big time. After his heartbreak, all he ever wanted was to establish his own name in the fashion industry... not get married. Not with Natasha Rehman at least, who also happens to be his best friend. Life can be complicated sometimes, in his case it was all the time. ••• Book Two in the "Let Go Series." CANNOT be read as a stand-alone. Once upon a time, men and women entered marriage with very clear policies regarding the division of labour: he would go to work and "bring home the bacon," while she would stay at home and cook, clean, and raise the children. Things aren't the same as they used to be. Modern Indian romance, intimacies, and marriages are far more complicated than assessments and reality television shows portray. In India, arranged marriages are an unique and complex process. People seek a 'soulmate' with whom they can spend the rest of their lives, but they also have specific expectations of the potential bride or groom. There is a strong narrative about finding love, compatibility, and connection, but what stands out is a real intent to replicate class identities beneath all of this. In a country that depends on a spending population, "middle class" is a necessary armour, a shared language, a value system, and, more importantly, a way of life. Life may be unjust, irritating, and disarmingly disappointing on most days. Being middle class, on the other hand, creates character in a culture obsessed with the need to be a part of the rat race. Marriage also places the onus of making sacrifices, concessions, and making the marriage work on the couple. This tale illuminates the unseen and underappreciated aspects of an Indian arranged marriage, the life of a middle-class wife and husband and their shared responsibilities as they navigate through life. Immense amount of desi tadka awaiting your way. *I don't own the illustration on the poster.*
