WATTY 2019 WINNER Hale, a state of the art android, can do nearly anything a human can. He cooks meals, cleans and organizes the house, repairs broken appliances, and runs errands. He can even provide for the more carnal needs of his owner. None of these tasks should present any challenge for Hale, and they don't-until he meets his next door neighbour, Rayner. Rayner seems like an unassuming gardener, but he asks Hale a lot of questions. Does Hale wish he could smell or taste food? What would he look like if his appearance hadn't been chosen for him? From the moment they meet, Hale runs into errors in otherwise simple tasks. He experiences bizarre sensations that none of his diagnostic tools can explain, and struggles to appease the people in his owner's social circle. As the errors in his programming begin to wear on his owner's patience, Hale faces the most difficult decision yet. If he can't evolve to meet her needs, he'll be returned and recycled into parts for future androids. If he does evolve, is he still just an android? Or something more? In all this, Rayner is the only man who can help him, and Rayner only has one question left for Hale. What does he want? Hale wasn't designed to want anything, but perhaps he can find the answer in the man with all the questions. Bab 53
Before Annabelle. Before Andrew Grant. There was Manatachie Falls a town that learned too late that monsters don't always come from the woods. Charles Grady arrives in eastern Arkansas with a single suitcase and a carefully practiced smile. He's a junior in high school, living with his aunt and uncle, trying to pass for normal in a town that believes it can spot trouble from a mile away. He wants friends. He wants safety. He wants a life that doesn't smell like Tennessee or echo with his stepfather's voice whispering lessons no boy should ever learn. But the past doesn't stay buried. It festers. Inside Charles is something fractured and watchful, a thing that learned early how good it feels to hurt when you're told it's love. He tells himself he can keep it under control. He tells himself he's better now. That the violence is gone. Then he meets Matthew Sager. Matthew doesn't just catch Charles's attention he consumes it. He becomes the proof that Charles can still be whole, still be loved. What starts as longing curdles into fixation, then into certainty. Matthew isn't someone to be admired from afar. He's something to be kept. Protected. Claimed. And Charles has never been good at letting go. As friendships rot, secrets surface, and the town's quiet rhythms begin to fracture, Manatachie Falls finds itself holding its breath. Accidents happen. People disappear. And Charles Grady watches it all with bright, careful eyes, telling himself he's doing this for love. By the time the town understands what's stalking it, it's already far too late. Because in Manatachie Falls, the most dangerous thing isn't what lurks in the dark- it's what learned to smile in the daylight.

In a society where technology enhances conformity, Charlie defies expectations by requesting to transition to male. But when the system wants to change his brain rather than his body, he and the woman he loves must join forces with a group of Queer Rebels to fight for their freedom. Season 1 of The Queer Rebels *** Charlie has always been told that on his twentieth birthday, he can choose to be anything he wants. Most people choose to be beautiful, or smart, or funny, but on his Choosing Day, Charlie asks for a male body to fit his mind. But when he realizes that authorities aren't going to accept his request and he's in grave danger, his only choice is to escape with Marcy, the woman he loves. Together, Marcy and Charlie give up everything they've ever known to escape the city for the Queer Rebels, who for decades have been providing refuge to runaways. At first, Charlie and Marcy's relationship blooms as Charlie finds a community he never knew existed and harnesses advanced tech the government's always hidden from them. However, nothing is quite as it seems, and things get complicated as they are forced to navigate ideological factions within the Queer Rebels. Charlie is drawn into a struggle for liberation, while Marcy urges caution. Their love was born in a repressive regime, but will it survive in the freedom beyond the city's borders?
