Death is an inevitable event. It has always been feared by a majority, often associating anything about it with something negative. As such, Death is one of the most feared cards in the Tarot Deck. This is normal as most people fear dying and any card representing such a thing would be portrayed negatively. However The Tarrot card "Death" doesn't necessarily mean physical death. It usually shows an end towards something, maybe in relationships or possible interest. It is the Ending towards a cycle, the transition from one to another, it is where one gets rid of any excess.
