What if Mapleshade wasn't evil, but Appledusk was? Mapleshade wasn't always an evil cat. When she made the mistake of taking on the mate Appledusk, a RiverClan warrior, and bearing his kits, she was banished from ThunderClan. On her way to RiverClan, her kits drowned, and she took them to RiverClan, facing rejection from RiverClan and her own mate, who had taken on Reedshine as a mate now. Furious and desperate to avenge her kits deaths, Mapleshade killed Ravenwing, ThunderClan's medicine cat that revealed her secret to the clan, Frecklewish who had been watching Mapleshade's kits drown, and accidentally killing Appledusk whilst aiming for Reedshine. She dies afterwards by a fatal injury from Appledusk's apprentice, Perchpaw, and roams in The Dark Forest. She stirred trouble for the clans, and participated in the Great Battle, killing Spottedleaf after she sacrificed herself for Sandstorm. But... but what if all this never happened? What if Mapleshade lived on in RiverClan, Darkstar accepting her, and her kits living on in RiverClan with their mother and father? What if Mapleshade never killed Ravenwing, Frecklewish or Appledusk, and she eventually did die, living on in Starclan? What if Mapleshade never became evil and never went to the Place of No Stars? What if Spottedleaf's spirit still lived on to this very day? In this story I twist 'Mapleshade's Vengeance' by Erin Hunter.
